Who’d have thought that a hosting placement we made years ago, when hosts Belinda and Julius Drake hosted a young Afghan as an emergency, would result in his family getting out of Afghanistan to settle in Canada – and meeting Justin Trudeau in their new home country?

Belinda’s efforts were remarkable: she organised her family and friends, raised money, cajoled and influenced and all sorts to help the family leave after the Taliban took over.

Hosting can lead to long-term friendships, to new families, to empowerment and big or small victories.

This is one of them.
