Asad, Rona and Brodie

3 March 2023

Meet Asad, from Somalia, with host Rona in Glasgow, where he has found friends and support (not least from dog Brodie).

Rona says: “While with us, Asad joined ESOL and computer classes and built friendships with the local Somali community and experienced his first Christmas and Hogmanay.”

Then he went into Home Office accommodation – which was promised in Scotland, but in reality sent to Hull (sound familiar?). He was alone and lonely – that sort of arbitrary move can be pretty miserable.

But thanks to intervention from British Red Cross and Scottish Refugee Council, and with the support of Migrant Help UK, Asad is back in Glasgow, living near Rona.
Apparently the first thing he wanted to do was take Brodie for a walk, as he says ‘with Brodie it is never boring’.

At least now he can meet his lawyer, restart classes and hopefully continue to build his life in the UK.
