“I’m very happy that organisations like Refugees at Home exist to help people struggling in similar situations as me.”

When Mina, a refugee from Afghanistan, started her degree in London, she soon realised she had a problem.

Her university accommodation was only available during term time, and without a network of family and friends in the UK, she found herself with nowhere to live over the summer break. Barely scraping by during the first two years, she was desperate to find a place to stay.

“I couldn’t save money to pay for somewhere to stay for three months. I was worried about that, and it was difficult for me to concentrate on my degree when I was anxious about the future.

“I found out about Refugees at Home, explained my situation, and they quickly found a host for me. They were really nice, on the first day I arrived they told me if I had any problems I could share with them, and they’d support me.”

“In September I moved back to university accommodation and have started my final year. After this, I’m planning to study a master’s degree, because the situation for women and girls in Afghanistan is tough, so I prefer to continue my education.”
