Refugees at Home celebrates National Lottery funding

January 16, 2025

We’re delighted to have been awarded £436,349 from The National Lottery to help us deliver an ambitious programme supporting refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK.

The grant, to be awarded over the next three years, will enable us to provide an even better service for our guests and hosts, as well as boosting the number of people we reach.

The National Lottery’s support will help us fund some of our placement coordinator roles, each overseeing parts of the UK where we’ve seen the biggest increase in demand for hosting. With a targeted response to three key regions – London & the South East, the North West, and Yorkshire & Humber – our team will be able to devote more time to areas where we’re needed the most.

Lauren Scott, Chief Executive Officer at Refugees at Home, said: “We’re incredibly grateful and proud to receive this recognition from The National Lottery.”

“Thanks to this funding, in addition to our normal work, our placement coordinators will be able to give extra attention to areas of the UK where the needs of our guests often outweigh the availability of our hosts.”

“By making use of their expertise and relationships with the local community, we can ensure that refugees and people seeking asylum have better access to a safe place to stay, no matter where they are.”

As the UK’s largest independent hosting charity, we’ve placed over 6,300 guests across more than 635,000 placement nights. Thanks to The National Lottery, we aim to support an additional 3,000 guests by the end of 2027 and be engaged with 2,500 hosts ready to open their homes.
